After NV Energy announced it would no longer be supplying power to Liberty Utilities by next year, leaving Tahoe residents without a clear future with energy, the concern and uproar has only grown. Here’s a recap of where things currently stand.
Why NV Energy made an ultimatum
Since 2009, NV Energy has supplied Liberty Utilities with 75% of its power, in part due to the challenges of creating energy infrastructure that would connect Tahoe with the rest of California. However, according to a spokesperson from NV Energy, “It has been understood that Liberty Utilities would eventually secure its own transmission access and energy supply so it could serve customers independently.”
In The News – Tahoe Nordic SAR Team honored for response to deadly avalanche

On Tuesday, the Placer County Board of Supervisors honored the victims of the Castle Peak avalanche and recognized the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue Team for its critical intervention. The commendation occurred at the North Tahoe Events Center during the board’s meeting.
The Feb. 17 incident marked the deadliest avalanche in California history, during which nine individuals lost their lives. The incident deeply impacted a tight-knit mountain community with victims from the Tahoe region and the Bay Area.
The Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue Team (TNSAR) is a volunteer group of highly experienced skiers, snowmobilers, and snowcat operators. Members include nurses, medical technicians, doctors, ski patrollers, and firefighters, many of whom possess advanced skills in medical and survival training, mapping, and search techniques.
The IVCB Community Forum is the place to learn and discuss things of importance to IVCB residents. It is held in person and on Zoom at the Incline Village Library the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month at 9 am. Local agency representatives from NLTFPD (fire), WCSO (sheriff), IVGID (recreation) and IVCBA (business), among others make announcements and answer residents’ questions. Attendees discuss any and all topics of general interest.

Somehow she managed to maintain a sunny disposition that was recorded by one admirer: “Dolley’s radiance raised to fever heat the thermometers of the heart.”
With feathers in her hair, she occupied the highest levels of society, where she was introduced to James Madison by Aaron Burr and bada-boom, bada-bing, the next thing anybody knew she was First Lady, and that was just what Dolley Madison was born to be…
“James, let’s throw a party.”
“What kind of a party?
“A fun party…a toga party!”
“Whatever.”
Dolley went straight to work on the invitations…
Dear friends and neighbors,
On the fourth of March, President James Madison will host a Toga Party at the White House. Formal Greek attire will be required. Muscat of Samos Wine will be served along with Baklava, Spanakopita and horiatiki soaked in olive oil. Music will be provided by “Socrates Drunk the Hemlock” and everyone will be required to dance along with the President to Zorba the Greek at midnight. Karaoke singing will commence at 1am. Bring a friend…
Well, that was a party to remember. It brought James out of his shell, which bought him and Dolley a second term. But what distinguishes Dolley to my mind, and makes her a hero of her time, really, is the way she single-handedly saved an American treasure…
In August of 1814 the British were coming, and they were not looking for a toga party either. In fact, it was rumored they might loot the White House and burn it to the ground. So Dolley got it in her estimable head to save the regal portrait of George Washington that hung there in the White House and hangs in the White House today. She ordered that the frame of that regal portrait be unscrewed and the portrait delivered to the safe hands of a gentleman in New York.
“But there is no time, Madam, the British are coming!” protested an aide.
“Then destroy it! It cannot fall into the hands of the Brits!”
“Alright, alright, I’ll try, Madam, but there are so many screws…”
That trusty aide unscrewed and unscrewed and unscrewed some more, until the portrait of George Washington fell off the wall into his hands. He wanted to roll up the portrait for shipping, but again Dolley came to the rescue and shouted, “No, you cannot roll it up or it will be ruined, you must transport it flat-out!”
Well, he done it. Gilbert Stuart’s majestic portrait of the Father of Our Country was saved, and hangs today in the East Wing of White House, thanks to the insistence of one amazing First Lady, Dolley Madison.
And this is where our brief story of Dolley Madison comes to an end…
In The News – Court intervenes in Incline Village timeshare dispute

A court appointee has temporarilytaken over an almost 50-year-old Lake Tahoe timeshare after disputes between timeshare owners and the timeshare’s association board led to court intervention.
Club Tahoe, established in 1978 in Incline Village, offers two-bedroom suites with full kitchens, tennis courts, a gym, a pool and a jacuzzi, as well as other amenities, based on an owned-week structure.
The timeshare is administered through an association whose board members serve two-year terms and are elected each April.

In The News – Tahoe Fund support helps Tahoe Interagency Bear Team discover new tactics for reducing human-bear conflicts

Spring is in full swing in Tahoe, and Black bears have emerged from their winter dens and can be spotted around town. Members of the Tahoe Interagency Bear Team (TIBT) are exploring new tactics to help manage human-bear conflicts learned at the 7th International Human Bear Conflict Workshop, held in Kalispell, Montana thanks to funding provided by the Tahoe Fund.
At the conference, nine members of the team, representing the Nevada Department of Wildlife, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and California State Parks, learned about initiatives that are showing positive results in other communities, and presented their own key learnings and best practices with the 320 attendees from 20 countries and 31 states.

In The News – Summer 2026 Lake Tahoe music guide: Concerts, festivals and shows around the lake (May-July)

A summer in Lake Tahoe is made up of more than just beautiful hikes, refreshing lake dips, river floats, and days spent beachside. It’s time for Tahoe’s vibrant music scene to fire on all cylinders, bringing a variety of jams to venues all around the lake. To make things easy, we’ve gathered a list of concerts, festivals and shows – both free and for purchase, in the months of May, June and July – so you can get out there and start swaying those hips.
Construction is underway on new parking areas along Tahoe’s East Shore Trail! These parking improvements are the next step in the expansion of the East Shore Trail, and will help improve safety and enhance recreational access along the SR 28 corridor.
So what’s happening? The East Shore Trailhead parking area in Incline Village is getting 38 more paid parking spaces immediately north of the existing paid parking area along SR 28, near Tunnel Creek Cafe. On the other side of the highway just north of Lakeshore Drive, there will be a new public transit shelter for southbound transit passengers. The project also includes much needed environmental restoration of an eroded shoulder area on the west side of SR 28 known as Rocky Point to reduce impacts on lake clarity.
A little farther south on SR 28, more parking improvements are also underway and new parking areas will open this spring, including: Chimney Beach (seasonal paid parking beginning June 1)Secret Harbor (seasonal paid parking also beginning June 1)Spooner Mobility Hub (construction beginning in May)Once open, roadside parking will be banned along SR 28 near the Chimney Beach Trailhead to remove dangerously parked cars and help improve safety along the SR 28 corridor. Eventually, these parking areas will offer connections to the next section of the Tahoe East Shore Trail, which is currently in design.
Behind the scenes, countless partners are hard at work making this project happen, including the Tahoe Fund, Nevada Department of Transportation, Washoe County, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Nevada Division of State Lands, Nevada Division of State Parks, and other regional partners. F.W. Carson Company is the construction contractor for the East Shore Trailhead area parking improvements.
This next phase of the East Shore Trail Extension project will help better manage high visitation to one of the most visited areas in Lake Tahoe and make it easier and safer for people to enjoy Tahoe’s iconic East Shore.

The Local Lens: Restaurant Week, Revitalization, and Community Momentum

IVCBA was re-formed in 2021 as a Business AND a Community Association. This was right after COVID, with the idea was that our community needed to rebuild some of the cohesiveness we had lost during the time when public gatherings were limited. We recognized that all segments of the community needed support if we were going to thrive. With that in mind, we set up communications, events, and business programs that would connect our community and make it more vibrant. Memberships have funded IVCBA programs that serve the entire community. Today I want to touch on the 6 segments of our community that we highlight on IVCBA.org and with our magazine LIVE.WORK.PLAY. Please don’t miss any of this Lens!
BUSINESS It’s Restaurant Week! Branch out, either go out for breakfast instead of lunch or go to restaurant you haven’t tried. My take: Big Water Grille has hired a top-notch chef that I plan to try. Incline Bak’d has a new owner, longtime local chefs Evan Roa and Chad Burns. Try their Italian beef sandwich! Rosewood is a happening place, but only for dinner. Adam took over the Jiffy Pizza spot too. Watch for a new restaurant opening there this summer. See all the Restaurant Week specials on IVCBA.org. By the way, participating restaurants are all donating to the Boys and Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe. What a guilt-free way to go out to eat!
IVCBA was a sponsor of the Economic Summit put on by Tahoe Prosperity Center. Kudos to Jason Jurss, Happy Tiers owner, who spoke on the entrepreneur’s panel.
ENVIRONMENT Everyone says it’s going to be a big fire or smoke season. Thanks to the fire district and their defensible space program, Firewise, and small business Wildfire Mitigation (Steve Blaney and Wildfire Pros (Steve Conboy), we have lots of resources. Learn about them all at the Wildfire Preparedness and Mitigation seminar on Tuesday May 26, organized by local activist Kristie Wells.
ARTS AND CULTURE We are becoming known as the center for arts and culture on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, with Classical Tahoe, Shakespeare, Tahoe Phil, and the Dance Collective. What we are really becoming famous for is the live music almost every night of the week. Check the IVCBA.org calendar. Maybe this is a stretch, but I am considering line dancing at Alibi Friday night as my culture for the week. After having pizza and beer for Restaurant Week dinner, of course!
FAMILY ADVOCACY and WELLNESS I am combining these two segments to feature two things.
It is mental health month…not sure if this is officially out, but I have it on good authority! Tahoe Family Solutions has plans to open a separate facility for its mental health clinic. Wow!
