INCLINE VILLAGE, NV. (February 10, 2024). . . Started by a small group of women who belonged to St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church and enjoyed knitting and crocheting, the Knitters Guild of Incline Village gathered together to support a Red Scarves and Hats Project for Valentine’s Day. Headed by Guild member, Gisela duVigneau, the members of the Knitters Guild “created these beautiful hats and scarves, as part of a Goodie Bag that includes homemade heart-shaped cookies, affirmations, and letters of encouragement. These bags will be distributed to young men and women on Valentine’s Day.
“We hope to give them a boost of confidence to pursue their education.” Gilly Quinn, Donor Relations and Events Coordinator of the Children’s Cabinet of Reno (https://www.childrenscabinet.org/) is instrumental in distributing to the most deserving of our youth.
Gilly Quinn
The Red Scarf Project had been a part of Ms. duVigneau’s volunteer efforts when she lived on the East Coast, but moving to Incline Village offered her no such activity. While a member of the Knitters Guild in Incline Village, she decided to start a similar project here in Northern Nevada, and birthed Red Scarves for Valentine’s Day!
Members of The Knitters Guild, part of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church’s community outreach program, meets on an informal basis and visit with each other, sharing patterns and ideas. The group has evolved into one that finds pleasure in making warm clothing and blankets for families who need them in Incline Village and the North Tahoe area. Members live in Incline Village, Tahoe City, Truckee and as far out as Spanish Springs. The Knitters Guild meets every Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the library of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, 341 Village Boulevard, Incline Village.

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – Lake Tahoe is known as a destination location to people all over the world, but for the people who live in the area year round, it’s considered to be home. Underneath the vacation haven that is the basin are thriving communities looking to support their residents.
There are plenty of challenges that come with living in a mountain town, including high densities of empty second homes and short term rentals leaving long term residents struggling to find a place to live, along with the growing need for food and mental health resources.
To combat these challenges in the basin, the non-profit agency Sierra Community House was created.
“Sierra Community House was created in 2019,” said Executive Director Paul Bancroft. “It was a result of the merging of long standing social service organizations in the community.”
Sierra Community House encompasses a wide variety of social services on the north shore and in the Truckee area, bringing together Project Mana which is focused on hunger relief, Tahoe Safe Alliance which is focused on domestic and sexual violence and child abuse, and the North Tahoe Family Resource Center and the Family Resource Center of Truckee.

The Incline Education Fund (IEF) was awarded a $50,000 grant in early October from the Washoe County Community Reinvestment Program for the Incline High School Engineering and Entrepreneurship program. They received a second $50,000 grant this January from the Nevada Governor’s Office of Science, Innovation and Technology (OSIT) to support the Incline Middle School Robotics Program.
Founded in late 2019, the nonprofit Incline Education Fund is the leading champion for Incline’s public schools. With an impressive list of successful projects, it now adds these grant awards to its list of accomplishments.
“Our focus this school year is on continuing to lay the groundwork to create a K12 STEM pathway for the Incline public schools,”
Mary Danahey

With the push for STEM expertise, Danahey said that IEF realizes students will always need strong core academic skills in order to succeed in these exciting new programs.
To ensure that all students are prepared, IEF has partnered with Tahoe Tutoring “to provide extra academic reinforcement to those who most need a little extra help at both Incline Elementary and Middle School,” explained cofounder Sharon Schrage. “Plans are also underway to give that same additional attention to students above grade level to foster extra academic enrichment.”
In just the past two years, the Incline Education Fund has become the driving force in bringing innovative educational programs to Incline schools.
