I remember being a little kid thinking that the year 2024 was so far away. It was unconscionable to me that anyone would ever live that long…especially if we all somehow survived Y2K. I imagined us all driving around in hovercrafts like The Jetsons (what a traffic nightmare that would be) and heck, California might not be around anymore since it was predicted it would some day drop off into the ocean.
But here we all are, approaching 2024. All the computers didn’t blow up when the clock struck midnight in the year 2000, most of California’s landmass is still attached to the rest of America, and we all have fostered a special attachment to this place we call Lake Tahoe. How lucky we are.

Catch an Early Torchlight Parade and Fireworks Show at Mt. Rose
Get an early start on 2024 by ending 2023 with a day of skiing or snowboarding at Mt. Rose followed by a snowcat parade, torchlight ski parade, and fireworks show on the main side of the mountain. The snowcats start heading up to the top at 4:45pm after skiers have cleared the hill, followed by a torchlight ski parade at 5pm and fireworks show at 5:45pm. The Bowl Incline New Year’s Eve Party

Brothers Zion Rock Godchaux and Kinsman MacKay are back for New Year’s Eve, bringing in a bit of house, blues, rock, and soulful beats that make it pretty much impossible not to move with the music. North Tahoe’s Most Flavorful Fundraiser Features 30 Food, Wine, and Beer Tasting Stations and a Silent Auction and Raffle
KINGS BEACH, Calif. – September 29, 2023 – Back for it’s seventeenth year, Passport to Dining promises to be an evening of delicious food, craft breweries, and regional wineries that attendees won’t want to miss. North Tahoe Business Association (NTBA), a nonprofit organization with a mission to improve economic vitality and quality of life, will host North Tahoe’s most flavorful fundraiser on Thursday, November 2, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at North Tahoe Event Center, in Kings Beach, CA.
Passport to Dining brings together 30 tasting stations offering a wide variety of flavors from restaurants, caterers, wineries, and breweries. While enjoying tastings, attendees can support two worthy local nonprofit organizations by purchasing raffle tickets and bidding on silent auction items and packages. The raffle and auction are recognized as one of the best in North Lake Tahoe featuring Northern California Getaway Packages and many additional valuable items.
This year, NTBA will donate a portion of Passport to Dining’s proceeds to Tahoe Truckee School of Music, an organization dedicated to offering music lessons, group classes, and performance experiences to students of all ages.
Tickets are $60 and include unlimited responsible tastings. Attendees can vote for the People’s Choice award for best food station. Tickets are available in advance only, and can be found onlinehereon a limited, first-come, first-served basis.

To try and decide each week where and what to eat in and around the basin can be a challenge – there are so many amazing choices. In this feature, we’ll dive into dishes that will surely satisfy those hunger pangs and leave you wondering where to go next.
I’m a sucker for good poke. I’ve written about multiple options that can be found around the lake in this column – each of them delicious in their own way. But, when you have a chef in Sam Choy who is often credited as the “Godfather of Poke,” you have to have certain expectations, right? Well, the expectations in this week’s feature certainly deliver.
This bowl really is a choose your own adventure when it comes to each flavor-packed bite. The carousel of components contain Namasu, endamame, lomi tomato, seaweed salad, and sitting in the center is the star of the show: shoyu or spicy poke aioli sitting atop a bed of steamed hapa rice then topped with unagi sauce, crispy won ton strips and furikake.
With summer quickly approaching, the Alibi Barrel house is a fantastic event site for a unique experience with great beer on tap.
Our original taproom – the Barrel House – at our production brewery in Incline Village, is a comfortable and cozy space for people to gather and relax. With beautifully crafted indoor and outdoor spaces, it’s also a great place to book for your next private event or a private brewery tour & tasting!

As temperatures rise, snow continues to melt and days grow longer, the last place you might think of planning your Tahoe trip around is a bowling alley — but that would mean missing out on one of the lake’s newest and most notable pieces of paradise, straight from Hawaii.
A vintage holdover from the mid-1960s, Incline Village’s Bowl Inclinerecently underwent a complete overhaul. It now features refurbished and illuminated bowling lanes, a new bar, a fully stocked arcade and pool room, giant flat screen TVs, outdoor dining and games, event spaces, and even an ax-throwing range in a welcoming 17,239-square-foot facility.

If I had to select a cut of beef that epitomized the west coast, I might have to go with the tri tip. Having family and friends in the south and on the east coast, it’s amazing that this cut isn’t more recognized nationally. So, any time I get to feature it in a column (like in the case of this week), I’m like a kid in a candy store.
Weather permitting, the films will be screened “drive-in movie style” outside the Tahoe Food Hub warehouse in the parking lot.
